How Wi-Fi and wired connections differ

A cable usually provides a steadier local link, while Wi-Fi is affected by distance and radio conditions.

Wi-Fi is convenient, but its radio signal shares space with walls, distance, neighboring networks, and other wireless devices. Moving away from the router or using a crowded channel can reduce available speed and make latency vary more.

A wired Ethernet connection avoids the radio link between the device and router. When available, it is a useful reference for checking whether a problem is likely within the Wi-Fi environment. It does not guarantee a particular internet speed because the external connection and server route still matter.

For a fair comparison, test each method with the same device and no large background traffic. If wired results are steady while Wi-Fi results are not, try router placement, a closer location, or a less congested wireless setup.
