Why download and upload speeds differ

The two directions can use different capacity, traffic patterns, and server paths.

Download speed is the rate at which data reaches your device, while upload speed is the rate at which data leaves it. Many residential plans allocate more capacity to downloads because streaming and browsing usually receive more data than they send. A lower upload result is therefore not automatically a problem.

The measured value also depends on what is happening in each direction. A cloud backup, file sync, video call, or another user uploading can reduce available upload capacity. The measurement server and the route to it can be different from the service you normally use.

Compare results under similar conditions before drawing a conclusion. If upload is consistently much lower than expected while local traffic is quiet, keep several results with their times and connection method for further support.
